Trekking in the Carpathians: Operation Maramorosh

Marmarosy Alps are by far the least accessible and most remote part of Carpathian Mountains.The mountain range has plenty of sunshine, sharp rocky peaks and views, completely unlike the other parts of Ukrainian Carpathians. Getting to hike in the range still requires permission from Ukrainian border guards, and has to be obtained at least a week in advance. During the tour you will see Marmorosy Pip Ivan (1937 m) and Chornohora Pip Ivan (2028 m), raisins of the route will charm you with their rocky splendour and wild beauty. Columns of Ukraine-Romania border will accompany you along the route. White Elephant ruins (Polish observatory) on the peak of Chornohora 2-thousander will impress you with its stone calmness.Marmasy Apls remain the real wild and unexplored area for true off-the-beaten track lovers!

  • Tourclub guides meet the group at the railway station in Rakhiv.  How to get to the tour?
  • transfer to Dilove Village by minibus
  • preparation for the trip. Tourclub guide should allocate all general equipment and food among all participants of the tour

  • the route of the 2nd day of the tour involves quite a long walk and ascending the range of mountains and conquering of Marmorosy Pip Ivan
  • hiking route: mountain valley Strumkiv - Ukraine-Romania border - Zherban Mountain (1794 m) - Marmorosy Pip Ivan (1937 m)slopes of Marmorosy Pip Ivan, 11 km

  • hiking route: slopes of Marmorosy Pip Ivan - Mezypotoky Mountains (1713 m) - Myka-Mare (1816 m) - slopes of Stih Mountain, 21 km

  • undoubted pearl of the fourth day of the tour is Pip Ivan Mountain (2028 m) on the peak of which raising the most high-altitude building of Ukraine, that’s abandoned Polish observatory known also as White Elephant (in winter snow and strong wind transform a majestic building into a chimerical creature that can remind silhouette of  the elephant )
  • hiking route: Stih Mountain - Byhid Mountain (1471 m) - Cornohora Pip Ivan (2028 m) - Vuhatyi Kamin Mountain, 16 km

  • hiking route: Vuhatyi Kamin Mountain – Black Cheremosh River, 10 km
  • rafting (13 km) passing all the main rapids of the Black Cheremosh river  (Dzembronia, Oldmans' Elbow, White Mare, Guchok, Guk). After the float transfer back to the camp by bus. (Total duration about 2,5 hours) (in case of 6 participants and for addittional payment)
  • transfer to Vorokhta by minibus
  • ending of the tour. How to get back home?
