The largest wonder of the mountain of Pip Ivan is a highland observatory, ruins of which tower on the top. People call the observatory “White Elephant”. They say that in winter covered with snow and ice and blew with strong winds the outlines of observatory reminds figure of an elephant.

Marmarosy Alps are by far the least accessible and most remote part of Carpathian Mountains.The mountain range has plenty of sunshine, sharp rocky peaks and views, completely unlike the other parts of Ukrainian Carpathians. Getting to hike in the range still requires permission from Ukrainian border guards, and has to be obtained at least a week in advance. During the tour you will see Marmorosy Pip Ivan (1937 m) and Chornohora Pip Ivan (2028 m), raisins of the route will charm you with their rocky splendour and wild beauty. Columns of Ukraine-Romania border will accompany you along the route. White Elephant ruins (Polish observatory) on the peak of Chornohora 2-thousander will impress you with its stone calmness.Marmasy Apls remain the real wild and unexplored area for true off-the-beaten track lovers!
