Even the most demanding traveler will appreciate treasury of interesting places, legendary fortresses and castles focused in Western Ukraine. Wherever you arrive each place possesses its own castle, palace, legend or a breathtaking story.
The largest wonder of the mountain of Pip Ivan is a highland observatory, ruins of which tower on the top. People call the observatory “White Elephant”. They say that in winter covered with snow and ice and blew with strong winds the outlines of observatory reminds figure of an elephant.
Ukraine is located in Eastern Europe. Its natural resources can impress anyone. The Black and Azov Seas, the Carpathian and Crimean Mountains, variety of rivers, the largest of which is the Dnieper, moderate climate, ancient history and culture. What can be better for a year-round welcoming of guests from all around the world? Ukrainians speak Ukrainian, melodiousness and beauty of which were acknowledged on the beauty language competition in Paris in 1934. About beauty of Ukrainian women no use to talk, you should simply see it.
It is a shame but only the name “Ukraine” sounds weird for the world while masterpieces and achievements of Ukrainians considered as familiar ones. The whole world if not sings “Carol of the bells” than surely identifies bright Christmas melody. Actually it is a Ukrainian folk song, recorded by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych. Going on with a music theme let us say that a widely-known hit “Summertime” by George Gershwin was inspired by Ukrainian lullaby “A Dream Passes By The Windows”. Is there anyone who never heard about Klychko brothers (owners of champions’ belts of four versions of most prestigious box organizations), Serhiy Bubka (Olympic champion in pole vaulting and repeated record holder), Taras Shevchenko (Ukrainian poet and artist, honored the largest number of monuments in the world) or Andriy Shevchenko (winner of the Golden Ball Award in 2004)? Art works of the Ukrainian artist of naïve manner Kateryna Bilokur charmed Pablo Picasso and ballet genius of Serge Lifar was acknowledged by Paris Grand Opera.
Among natural wonders of Ukraine should be emphasized the Dniester Canyon, considered the longest in Europe (above 250 km). Optimistic Cave, located in Ternopil Region, entered the Guinness Book of Records as the longest gypsum cave in the world, the longest cave of Eurasia and third longest in the world. Ukraine possesses the biggest skansen in Europe – open air museum of Architecture and Everyday life (“Open Air Museum in Pyrohovo” on the southern outskirts of Kyiv).
The Ukrainian Carpathians with an extensive system of mountain regions provide fantastic conditions for trekking in summer and ski entertainments in winter. Landscapes of stunning beauty, rank vegetation and variety of berries will pleasantly surprise you as strongly as a huge building of observatory on the peak of Carpathian 2-thousander Pip Ivan (materials for the construction of most high-altitude building in Ukraine carried local residents on their own shoulders) and ancient legends and stories explaining the name of almost every mount, lake or river.
Ukrainian Carpathians offer not only trekking tours, but also rafting on wild mountain streams with raging rapids and picturesque banks. Hospitability of Carpathian inhabitants – hutsuls – has been known for ages: shepherds on mountain meadows will treat you with their specialties (fresh milk, budz, brynza). In the Carpathians you can listen to the longest wind instrument in the world, that’s trembita (can reach 8 m long).
In Western Ukraine is focused the third part of all castles located in Ukraine, without mentioning a great number of sculptures and monuments. For instance, on Virmenska Street in Lviv you can see unique Smile Monument created by sculptor and cartoonist Oleh Derhachov.
